Our Approach
Our approach is rooted in understanding how trauma and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) can lead to high-risk behaviours.
Studies show that trauma causes real physical changes in the brain, such as resetting its alarm system, increasing stress hormone activity, and altering how the brain distinguishes important information from unimportant. These changes demonstrate how deeply trauma affects the brain, impacting both mental and physical health.
We now understand that trauma affects the part of the brain responsible for sensing the feeling of being alive. This explains why people who have experienced trauma are often overly alert to threats, making it hard for them to engage naturally in everyday activities. It also helps us see why they tend to repeat the same problems and struggle to learn from their experiences.
We now know that their behaviours are not the result of moral failings or signs of lack of willpower or bad character - they are caused by actual changes in the brain. Bessel Van Der Kolk
Emotional Health And Safety Framework
Our emotional health and well-being framework uses a combination of awareness-raising, education, skill-building,and evidence-based trauma-informed somatic (body) interventions, to support individuals in developing a new sense of self, and emotional competence and resilience.

We work alongside prisons, the probation service, addiction recovery services, schools, intervention services and other supporting organisations around the UK providing education, training and therapeutic expertise in EFT to raise awareness of the impact of toxic stress, trauma and ACE in young people and adults.

We believe that understanding and intervention are the keys to enabling people to develop emotional competence that will empower them to reach out to services that will help them make positive changes and transform their lives.

WHY
Emotional competency involves recognising, understanding, and managing one's emotions effectively. It includes skills such as emotional awareness, self-regulation, empathy, and the ability to navigate social complexities. By creating emotional competency individuals can grow the capacity to foster trusting relationships with themselves and their support networks and improve outcomes for both them and their services e.g. increased engagement with addiction and recovery teams, educational programmes, housing services, health and social care.
